trendz - our client newsletter

june 2005

Welcome to the June edition of trendz. It is hard to believe that half of the year has gone already. This month we bring you an article on Trade Me. Many of you will be registered users of this online trading delight. There are dangers, however, when your trading continues at work. This is an important article for employers and employees alike.

This particular piece has sparked a great deal of interest and recently appeared in NZ Lawyer magazine. It has also been picked up by the news and information website www.stuff.co.nz. In addition to this, the article is set to appear in a book called Trade Me Success Secrets soon to be published by Activity Press.

Also featured in NZ Lawyer recently was the Principal herself, Barbara Buckett. The magazine ran an extremely positively received profile on Barbara in the 'life less ordinary' section. NZ Lawyer is a widely distributed publication, but for those of you missed out on reading the original we have included it in this edition of trends for your reading enjoyment.

a life less ordinary

Barbara Buckett is well known to many as a formidable presence in the court room, and has taken leading cases in the area of damages with considerable and, in some cases, ground-breaking success. Click here for more...

If you have any questions or comments regarding articles you have read via trends please contact us at Barbara Buckett and Associates or visit our discussion group - a forum within our website where you can have your say.

You can now also visit the recently created Barbara Buckett & Associates blog at http://buckettlaw.blogspot.com. Many of you will have heard about this phenomenon and may well be regular bloggers yourself. For those of you who haven't, blog is short for web log, which is a sort of online journal where the author can post entries and others can read and respond to them.

Barbara has been selected to be the principal blogger in the firm, so there will certainly be some interesting blogging going on.

Next month we will be bringing you an in-depth look at the Bryson v Three Foot Six case. The Supreme Court's recent ruling has restored the decision of the Employment Court that Bryson was an employee of Three Foot Six and not an independent contractor. As a result of the Supreme Court's decision, Bryson now has the right to pursue his personal grievance against Three Foot Six under the Employment Relations Act 2000. We will examine exactly what this means for employers and employees in the context of the employee v contractor debate. Until next time...
