Barbara Buckett | Principal
Barbara is a senior law practitioner, widely acknowledged as a leading interpreter of employment law.
She is also highly respected in many other fields including civil/contract law, public and administrative law.
She has appeared before most New Zealand courts, various tribunals, commissions of inquiry, parliamentary select committees and professional bodies. Her clients include government entities, major commercial enterprises, employers and employees, professional associations, private individuals, beneficiaries and mental health consumers.
Barbara has vast experience as a skilled negotiator and mediator. She believes that the key skills of a good litigator are negotiation, mediation and advocacy.

Barbara’s approach to problem resolution is flexible and always appropriate to the matter at hand.
Wherever possible she prefers to resolve issues before they reach court. Barbara knows the importance of keeping abreast of developments in the law.
She is a member of various organisations including the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators, the Employment Law Institute and the Wellington District Law Society Employment Law Committee.
She believes in maintaining strong links with the community and her clients. She is an active supporter of Police youth initiatives. An energetic supporter of business, she is a member of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce and a long-standing judge for the high-profile Wellington Region Business Gold Awards and is also a judge for the more recently established Champion Canterbury Awards.
Because she is a recognised expert in her field Barbara is in frequent demand with the media.
